“World Waste Map - The World’s Biggest Waste Challenges at a Glance”

29 Jan 2018 -

We are proud to announce the publication of the 1st ISWA Young Professionals Group report “World Waste Map - The World’s Biggest Waste Challenges at a Glance” !

At the beginning of 2017 the ISWA Young Professionals Group set a goal: to identify and map the world’s biggest waste challenges. We leveraged our networks in 87 countries to conduct our research. The results reveal the state of waste management across the globe today. From inadequate waste infrastructure to a lack of circular product design, the challenges are diverse. In some cases, as with open dumping of waste, the consequences to human health and the environment are severe. This report provides a high-level snapshot of our findings and recommends action on priority waste issues.

This report has been made possible by a number of committed young volunteers who dedicated their knowledge and free time to this project – thank you! Further, we would like to thank VITO (Flemish Institute for Technological Research, Belgium) for their generosity sponsoring the graphic design of this report, Timothy Bouldry, for contributing his photographs for the report, and the Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) for their support promoting the survey and providing a platform for us to share the results at the opening ceremony of the 2017 WASTECON/ ISWA World Congress.
